MVD Entertainment Group Bestows "Marquee Collection" Status On The July 23 Blu-ray Debut Of Writer/Director Richard Shephard's The Linguini Incident

MVD Entertainment Group was out with the news this week that there will be a new inductee into the company’s popular “Marquee Collection” library on July 23 with the 4K film restoration (from the film’s interpostive) of director Richard Shephard’s 1991 film release of The Linguini Incident.

Both Blu-ray and DVD editions will be available for purchase, which includes not only the original theatrical of the film, but the unseen (until now) “Director’s Cut” … two viewing options!

This is one of those cinematic treasures that sort of slipped through the cracks.   Money was the issue, or should we say, the lack of it that put this caper comedy, starring David Bowie, Rosanna Arquette, Marlee Matlin, Viveca Lindfors and Buck Henry, into distribution limbo.

The movie had a limited run in 1992, with the Los Angeles bookings taking place during the period of the Rodney King riots, which pretty much spelled doom at the box office.  It then went straight to VHS on an indie label the same year.

The film resurfaced in January of 2000 on DVD as Shag-O-Rama (long since out of print), had some UK (PAL DVD) action and was given a “Helper” domestic release DVD in 2019.   Never on Blu-ray!

So when you had it all up, MVD’s “Marquee Collection” release of The Linguini Incident on July 23 will be the first time that most film fans will have an opportunity to actually see the film … literally for the first time!!

Bonus features include two commentary options.

The first is moderated by Cereal at Midnight’s Heath Holland and features writer/director Richard Shepard (The Matador, Mercy, The Hunting Party), actors Rosanna Arquette and Eszter Balint, co-writer Tamar Brott and co-producer Sarah Jackson, while the second is a solo of Shepard.

Also included as a bonus is documentary filmmaker Richard Schenkman’s feature-length film titled The Making of the Linguini Incident.
